Major Grey's Mango Chutney

The mango chutney is by far the most popular of all chutneys. Even the colonial Englishman would never dream of eating his curry and rice without the mango chutney.

How exactly the name Major Grey Chutney came about has been lost in history, but popular belief goes that it was named after a British Army Major then posted in India.

Originally all Indian condiments are known to be fiery hot. Hence they were too spicy for the European settlers palates. A British army Major specially had a sweet variety of mango chutney made to suit his taste. Thus the immensely popular variety of Major Grey Chutney is thought to have been born.
